Sarah Huckabee Sanders goes completely off the deep end

Donald Trump is so flustered by whatever bad news is coming down the pike tomorrow, he’s spent the weekend tweeting more frantically and skittishly than ever – and we assume, behind the scenes, dry heaving. Unable to say anything coherent of his own, Trump sent one of his most loyal remaining advisers, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, on Fox News to try to make his case for him. It didn’t exactly go well for her.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared on Fox on Sunday morning to try to fend off a burgeoning scandal that clearly scares Donald Trump: the potential release of his tax returns to Congress. Trump has no legal standing to block the Treasury Department from handing over his returns, so unless Trump’s top officials are willing to risk going to jail for him, House Democrats will end up with his returns in the end.

That meant Sanders had no argument to make, which may explain why she simply went the insult route: “I don’t think Congress, particularly not this group of Congressmen and women, are smart enough to look through the thousands of pages that I would assume that President Trump’s taxes will be.”

How embarrassing was this remark by Sarah Huckabee Sanders? So many Twitter users began making fun of her for it, her name spent most of the day trending. Congressman Adam Schiff may have summed it up best: “There’s an old saying. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. If neither the facts or law are on your side, pound the table. And then there’s whatever this is.”
