If Mr Trump is impeached during Wednesday’s proceedings, the Senate will have to hold a trial to determine whether he is guilty.
A total of 17 Republican senators will need to vote for a conviction to secure the two-thirds majority needed to convict him in the Senate.
Several Republican senators have expressed their intentions to back the impeachment should it go to trial.
Representative Liz Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican and daughter of former Republican Vice President under the Bush administration, Dick Cheney, said: “There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
